2019 – (Video)S.F.P.D. Officer Hoang and Other Officers Attempt To Discourage the Reporting of the Trafficking of an African American Child.

Local Hero Dennis Bruce Allums Confronts Resistance in Reporting a Critical Incident

Dennis Bruce Allums, a renowned advocate for protecting women and children, walked into the San Francisco Police Department’s Tenderloin station with urgent information. He believed that an African American child was at risk of being trafficked to men at the nearby Westfield Mall. The suspects, a group led by a middle-aged white woman, appeared to be orchestrating the crime, and Mr. Allums was determined to ensure they were stopped.

However, what happened next left him stunned. The first officer he approached, an Asian officer, dismissed him outright, refusing to listen and ordering him to leave the office. Shocked by this response, Mr. Allums stepped outside and encountered a white police supervisor. He relayed the incident to the supervisor, warning that he intended to report the officer’s behavior to the media.

Recognizing the seriousness of the situation, the supervisor escorted Mr. Allums back into the station, confronting the officer who had dismissed him. Another officer, Simon Hoang, then came out to take Mr. Allums’s report.

While the situation appeared to be resolved, the experience left Mr. Allums questioning why his initial attempt to report such a serious matter was met with resistance.

A Larger Reflection

This incident highlights the challenges individuals can face when trying to alert authorities to potential harm. Dennis Bruce Allums’s persistence ensured that the report was ultimately taken, but the delay underscores the importance of professionalism and responsiveness, particularly in situations involving vulnerable individuals.

For those working to protect the most at risk, cooperation and respect from law enforcement are essential. This story serves as a reminder of the critical role every officer plays in ensuring justice and safety for all.
